Algorithm - A series of moves. Used to achieve
a desired change in the positioning of the individual pieces of the cube.
Center Piece - The pieces in the center of
each face. The center pieces are all connected on the inside of the cube and
do not change positions like the rest of the individual cubes.
Corner - A single corner piece of the cube. An individual
three sided piece of the cube.
Corners first - Methods that complete the
cube corners first and then edges instead of the traditional layer by layer
methods.
Cross - To form a cross from a center and four edges
on one side of the cube. The first step of the Fridrich Method and similar methods
is to form the cross.
Cross on bottom - Keeping the cross on
the bottom of the cube while completing the first two layers.
Cross on left - Keeping the cross on the
left side of the cube while completing the first two layers.
Cross on top - Keeping the cross on the top
of the cube while completing the first two layers.
Edge - A single non-corner piece of the cube. An individual
two sided piece of the cube.
F2L - First 2 Layers. The first two layers you complete
while solving the cube
Face - A single side of the cube as seen when you
look directly at it.
Finger Shortcut - Same as a finger trick.
See Finger Trick.
Finger Trick - Manipulating the cube quickly
by using your fingers in a trigger motion and or any other quickly executed
movement.
Inverse - Performing an algorithm exactly backwards
to achieve the exact opposite of its normal effect.
LL - Last Layer. The last layer you complete while solving
the cube.
Looking ahead - Looking for the next move
or algorithm you will perform while performing a move or algorithm.
Lube - The act of applying lubrication to the inside
of your cube or in between the pieces. Silicone lubricant is recommended.
Luck - Getting to skip a step of your solution.
Lucky Time - Skipping a step of your solution
while timing yourself. Time should be discounted if time is for a record or
official average.
Move - Turning one side of the cube.
Orient - Changing the direction that two or more
pieces face on the cube.
Orientation - The direction that a piece or
pieces of the cube are facing.
Piece - An edge or a corner.
Permutation - The order of multiple pieces
on the cube.
Permute - To change the order of two or more pieces.
Record - Your fastest documented completion of a
randomized cube not including lucky cases.
Resticker - Replacing worn out sticker on your
cube. Vinyl tape or equivalent recommended.
Reflection - Performing an algorithm so that
it achieves the same effect on the side opposite of its normal effect on the
same face.
Speed Solving - Solving the cube with completion
time being the objective.
Standard Method - The method of solving
that is included in the package when you buy the cube.
