Rescuing The Hostages | Warehouse Hold-off (A) | Warehouse Hold-off (B) | Assaulted (CTs)
Assaulted (Terrorists) | Backdoor Rush | CT Campers

Intro:
Assault is a wonderful map and it surprises me how many times I hear players complain "Oh, no! Assault...I hate this map." as a new game starts. As you play the map it seems small, yet there are many routes to each destination. Combine the video cameras with voice communication for an extra advantage!

Bridge Side:
You will notice a long bridge running across one side of the map (left side for CT and right side for T). You can go up the ramp and get on the bridge or you can stay on ground level. Terrorists wont be able to access the bridge immediately but if they can make around to the ramp they will have a great view of the enemy territory.

There are many obstacles on the ground to provide cover while rushing, so it wont hurt to expect short and even no range battles. When you spot an enemy its always fun to strafe back around the huge boxes and wait for them or flank around to surprise them. Expect this always, when you spot an enemy and then he pops back behind a box it is a safe bet that he is flanking. Listen for his footsteps and you will know.

For CTs, going up the ramp is a good idea if you choose a long range weapon, because you wont be immediately rushed. You can duck back out of sight to anyone on the ground if you need to, but always keep your eye on the roof.

Backdoor:
The backdoor to the warehouse is on the far right if you are a CT (or the left if you are a T). Control of the backdoor can often make or break a round (or even a game). Once the CTs make it in they need to make sure and look both ways! As soon as they are in they are immediately well covered and it's extremely hard to force them to retreat. Pretty much the only way to get them out is to rush them. If the terrorists drop a smoke (lag) grenade by the back door it often causes the CT team to head for the roof.

Note to CT team:
Open the backdoor with your back instead of running straight into it. This makes the door open toward you instead of into the building, which gives your team 2 ways to rush in! This works on almost all of the doors in Counter-Strike.

Rooftop Madness:
One of the greatest features in cs_assault are the rooftops. From the outside there are 2 ways up to the main roof and a second rooftop by the CT base. It takes both teams about the same amount of time to reach the main roof, so if the CTs want to play it safe (and stay alive), then it's a very smart move to have a long range shooter on the second rooftop (near the CT base). If you come through the vents as a Terrorist, be sure to look ALL ways, because the CTs have a ladder up on both sides and a rooftop across from you.

Train Your Skills:
For this one I recommend reading my guide titled "The M3 Super 90 Unleashed", because the shotty can be a valuable asset in the close range battles that this map provides.

If you aren't familiar with the terrain then I suggest checking out Counter-Strike 2D

Tactics
Rescuing The Hostages

The red dots represent terrorist prone areas.
The main rooftop deserves one huge red dot, so don't forget to check it!
Remembering theses spots when rescuing will be a life saver.

Plan Blue:
Head to the left as you leave the hostage room and jump down onto the box as pictured (or take the long way down if you don't have 20-30 health to waste). Head for the huge garage door and be sure to stay by a wall! Make sure to keep an eye on the back door until you make it outside, and as soon as you are outside check the rooftops! Make your way to the rescue zone and make some money, but don't forget to watch out for the terrorist prone areas!

Plan Green:
This plan is mostly useful when you know that the huge front door isn't a safe route, but can prove effective either way. If there are enough players, it's always fun to leave one guy behind to get the stray terrorists. As you head outside, don't forget to check directly above the backdoor; there is a small lamp that the enemy may be standing on. Be aware of the rooftops and head to the open area, but be sneaky until you know the coast is clear. Once again make your way to the rescue zone and make some money, but don't forget to watch out for the terrorist prone areas!

Warehouse Hold-off (A)

This tactic is an effective way of preventing the CTs from rescuing the hostages. Head to the pictured positions at the start of the round and wait; they are headed your way so get ready. For the man at the vent, be sure to get in the vent crouching and not to just stay on the ladder, otherwise your gun will fire all crazy! The player facing the backdoor is in constant danger and may need backup. Don't leave him hanging when danger shows up. The 2 long range shooters will probably be up against other long range weapons, and if you are one of these players be sure to aim accurately and shoot fast. An AK-47 and an Arctic Warfare Magnum are both great for these positions, because fast kills mean fast wins!

Warehouse Hold-off (B)

This tactic has the same idea as the previous tactic, except the different positions make for a different type of battle. Here we keep all of our players on the upper level, and if the CTs rush the backdoor we have 2 shooters ready for them. The same ideas as before apply for the player at the vent, and the man on the ledge needs to watch the front entranceway. If they come through the huge front door you wont see them until they are in, but this is your advantage as well as theirs. Keep your positions and calmly fire at your enemies. If all else fails camp the hostage room (I don't cover this topic and I try not to do it)!

Assaulted (CTs)

Storm the front! That's right folks, and don't stop! This tactic displays a smart and effective way for the CT team to rush on cs_assault. Rushing is not as easy on assault as it is on other maps because of the rooftops and the obstacles between you and your enemy. Cover fire should be given until your team reaches the positions pictured. Once the assault team players have reached these positions, the cover fire should move on with the rush. Use the "terrorist prone spots" shown in the hostage rescue tactic to cut down your chances of not seeing a quiet enemy. As soon as you are inside, proceed to rescue the hostages as explained above and/or eliminate the enemy players.

Assaulted (Terrorists)

This tactic is basically a role reversal from the previous tactic and should be used in the same manner as described above. Once your team is out in the open, be sure to watch the rooftops and move quickly. Search out the CTs that remain outside then head back to the hostages.

Backdoor Rush

As soon as your (CT) team spawns, buy fast and head for the back door. Open the door backwards as noted in the intro, and move in 2 players at a time, one to the right and one to the left. For the players that went to the right, make sure the windows by the hostage room are clear before advancing, and keep your eye on the huge front door. The players that head to the left will need to watch out for enemies behind the huge container by the front door. If you use the lines of fire above then your team should be able to check all visible areas in one or two looks, but in a big area like this you can't be too careful. Once again the "terrorist prone spots" mentioned above can be very helpful, be careful as your team moves forward and keep an eye on the vent! Head for the hostages and use the rescue tactics mentioned above.

CT Campers

This tactic is not quite as bad as hostage room camping, but it will annoy your enemy badly enough for them to step into your line of fire. The position on the bottom left of the image has a clear shot at most of the roof and seems to go undetected quite well, but the guys on the bridge should still be weary of the main rooftop just in case an enemy gets by. Stick with the lines of fire pictured to keep your enemy "stuck" in the warehouse. When they get bored, they will come out.
